The New Kid

The new kid comes to school in a limousine, and we’re suspicious of him from the minute he drove up in that big black car acting like he owned us and the school. We nodded at each other and knew right away. “What a snob.”

“I hate him,” Nathan says. It’s lunch time and we’re at our usual hang out, Peterson’s shop class.

“Me too,” we agree. “Who invited him here in the first place?”

Mr. Peterson stops what he’s doing to ask about the source of this collective repulsion, so we tell him.

Peterson goes back to his newspaper, then says, “Maybe his dad’s a limousine driver.”
